Will immigration reform be Paul Ryan's Achilles' heel? Posted by Staff
Rep. Paul Ryan speech to the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce yesterday did not bode well for true conservatives and hard working Americans. While minority outreach is an important part of a GOP strategy for victory in 2014 and beyond, Ryan’s general comments on immigration reform seem to ignore that many of the problems that we have with illegal immigration would not exist if the laws on the books were enforced. Ryan and other GOP establishment types are quick to offer tired phrases like, ‘We are a nation of immigrants...’ but perhaps the argument that should be made before the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is that illegal immigration is devastating to legal immigrants. We are a nation of immigrants, but we are also a nation of laws; we are a nation with ten million unemployed persons, and we are also a nation with eleven million-plus illegal immigrants... Maybe it's time we do something about it and enforce the laws that are already on the books.
