The Senate immigration reform bill is the real scandal

Laura criticized Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) on the show today, in regards to his comment that there will be a finalized immigration bill by the end of the year. "It doesn't give me a great sense of comfort about where Boehner's head is on all of this," she mused. "I'm worried about the country for my children. I am worried about wages for them... what the country will be like for them." Laura labeled the current immigration reform a scandal, "as big, if not bigger, than the scandal of the NSA snooping on American citizens."
Congressman Labrador explains why he fled Congress' 'Group of Eight'

Congressman Raul Labrador (R-ID) conceded to Laura today that America needs immigration reform, but stated that it is imperative "we make border security the number one priority in any immigration reform plan." He criticized Sen. John McCain for having a "tone of desperation" saying that immigration reform is not the way to win the Hispanic vote - "we win the Hispanic vote by reaching out them, by talking to them, by explaining to them that our hopes and aspirations are the same as theirs," he said. Congressman Labrador explained that the final straw for him before leaving the Group of Eight was his belief that illegal immigrants "should get no benefits" on the path to citizenship - something the Group's members could not promise.

The Cornyn RESULTS Amendment is a sham

Senator John Cornyn's (R-TX) RESULTS Amendment to the McGrubio bill will not fix the core problems of this legislation. Senator David Vitter (R-LA) put it aptly when he called the bill "political cover" for Republican senators who want to vote for the overall legislation without altering it substantively or experiencing the political consequences. The Cornyn Amendment requires that DHS certify border security measures before the newly legal immigrants gain citizenship, but not legalization. This is where the amendment actually weakens the bill; the original immigration reform at least says a border security plan must already be "substantially deployed" and a border fence "substantially completed" before legalization. RESULTS has no mention of a fence and says that DHS must only have "situational awareness" of the border - whatever that means. Nothing in Cornyn's Amendment changes the fundamental amnesty-now, enforcement-later nature of the bill. It is simply a façade to get the bill passed in the Senate. Facebook Fark Furl
