Senator Vitter: Gang of 8 bill similar to failed 1986 amnesty legislation

Senator David Vitter (R-LA) blasted Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today regarding Rubio's comments on the link between the border security triggers and legalization. "Rubio has the order exactly wrong...I don't think we'll ever get border and workplace enforcement unless we make legalization contingent on that," Vitter asserted. Sen. Vitter also spoke about the precarious situation developing in the Syria: "It's a horrible situation with horrible suffering. Certainly this Syrian regime has to go, but we also have to be very careful that we ally with good guys and not bad guys." When asked whether the NSA had overreached the boundaries of the Patriot Act by seizing phone and Internet records Vitter responded, "I don't believe the two basic programs that have been discussed over the last week have exceeded the Patriot Act." Dr. Cretella: Plan B could be extremely dangerous for minors

Dr. Michelle Cretella, Vice President of the American College of Pediatricians, trashed the Obama administration's decision to allow minors to buy Plan B over-the-counter. She criticized the decision because of the limited scientific data that exists on the safety of Plan B for minors. Since young girls are still developing in their teen years, it is unclear how surges in hormones could affect their brain development and future fertility. Dr. Cretella also explained that although the Dept. of Health and Human Services has argued that access to Plan B lowers pregnancy rates, "there's not one study either here or abroad that demonstrates increased access and availability of the morning after pill would achieve that end." In fact, according to studies in England and Wales, what you actually see is "an increase in sexually transmitted infections," which stem from an increase in sexual activity.
