Michael LaFaive, Director of the Morey Fiscal Policy Initiative for the Mackinac Center, discussed the "decades of bad public policy decisions and mismanagement by city leaders" that has contributed to Detroit's bankruptcy. LaFaive insists that Detroit, which was named the most liberal city in America by a Bay Area Center for Voting Research study, was ultimately brought to its demise by government officials who hold misguided, yet "very statist, very interventionist, very pro-government views." Dr. Ben Carson condemns the Left for the post-verdict Zimmerman attacks
Dr. Ben Carson, a retired neurosurgeon at John Hopkins, denounced the media hype, which has followed Zimmerman's acquittal saying that, "the real role of the media in a free society is to be objective, and to be able to report things in a way that people can actually believe." He also called Detroit's appointment of a city manager, "a step in the right direction" for his hometown because, "for a very long time, Detroit has been controlled by political factions that are in bed with unions."
