Sequester scrooge
Posted by Staff
‘Tis the season of giving (& spending)—and the budget deal did just that! In a most magnanimous gesture, the budget accord gives an early Christmas present to our friends across the aisle. The deal comes at the cost of one of the GOP’s greatest fiscal accomplishments in the past two years - the sequester, which is slashed by 63 billion in “sequester savings” and which will again push the deficit over $1 trillion for fiscal year 2014. Not to mention the fact that the deal levies additional “fees” (note the careful avoidance of the word “taxes”) on the American people trying to fly home for the holidays. At least the American people can rest easy knowing that Democrats can cross this wish off their congressional Christmas list and can all get home for the holidays early, which (as Patty Murray asserts) they all really deserve this year.

Obama pays his respects

The behavior exhibited by President Obama at yesterday’s funeral of one of the great leaders of the 20th century was an absolute disgrace. First, there was his handshake with Cuba’s dictator, Raul Castro, who, along with Fidel, has been an active impediment to freedom and democracy in his country for decades (at least Obama didn’t fist bump him). And let’s not forget Obama’s tacky and insensitive “funeral selfie” with Great Britain’s PM, Mike Cameron and the fetching Danish PM, Helle Thorning-Schmidt. While the picture of Michelle’s multiple scowls at the event went viral, at least she displayed a demeanor commensurate with the somber nature of the event. The President’s behavior was an embarrassment and not fit for the leader of the free world. Maybe in 2016 we’ll finally elect a president who doesn’t degrade the office and, by extension, the American people. Facebook Fark Furl
