Marco Rubio, call your office! Sen. David Vitter is correct--we've seen this movie before and we know how it ends. The undocumented get legal status and ultimate voting rights, our legal immigrants and citizens get empty promises of enforcement. So millions more will come, today's "shadow" workers will be replaced by new "shadow" workers. Middle class wages will continue to suffer, lag, and stagnate. Prove over 5 years that the border is enforced using objective standards and measurements. Only then should we even consider a "legal" status for those here illegally. Republicans should make the case to legal Hispanic citizens and residents that this approach will prevent further wage erosion, and ultimately their children's future. After "comprehensive reform" is enacted, the president will do little to enforce the border
. (Think of the level of enthusiasm he has for reducing the debt and deficit.) And once again we, the American people, will be left holding the bag.
