The AP-Gfk poll shows that 6 in 10 Americans favor stricter gun laws. In the absence of strong leadership and powerful rhetoric from a well-known Republican politician, I'm surprised the support for government action isn't higher. Also, we should also note that if new immigrants and illegal immigrants are part of the sampling, many will hail from countries that do honor individual gun rights as our Constitution does. Still, conservatives can't let the NRA take the primary lead on this issue, not when it is so easily maligned by the cultural and political elites.
