The economy has taken a turn for the worse, but you wouldn’t be able to tell that from President Obama’s actions. Chili dogs and golf outings filled the president’s weekend following the worst jobs report since the fall of 2010. Some of the highlights of this report that have been buried below the headline grabbling 9.1% unemployment rate are the 24% unemployment rate for teenagers, the increase of 361,000 people who have been unemployed for more than 27 weeks, and the downward revision of March and April’s jobs reports by 39,000 jobs. All of these numbers can be confusing and hard to keep track of which is why a graph comparing this recession to the previous recessions would be useful.
