The carnage in Chicago
continues. The heartbreak mounts. Innocents are slaughtered. Much of it is gang-related, but not all. This has been going on for years but Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson have seemed to barely notice. Where are the cameras? Where is the wall-to-wall coverage? Do these victims deserve to be known? Their backgrounds examined? The cause of this scourge debated? The fact is, we won't see much media attention to the random shootings, senseless killings that occur every day in America. We, however, are drowning in Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman coverage right now. We were led to believe early on that George Zimmerman was a racist, looking for a fight. We were led to believe that Trayvon was a little boy who could do no wrong. Of course the story is more complicated. It always is. Our tragedy TV culture demands to be fed with hype and drama. I don't expect this to change much in the near future. But we can hope.
