Les Mis tops Django Unchained
Posted by Staff
Universal's Les Miserables opened to a strong No. 1 on Christmas day with an expected take of $17.5 million, surpassing industry expectations.

The film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical stars Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway and Russell Crowe, and was directed by Tom Hooper.

Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained also did bang-up business on its first day, grossing a projected $14 million, the top opening for an R-rated film on Christmas Day, exceeding the $10 million earned by Ali in 2002.
