Learning the hard way--schools overreact to kids' imagination

You have heard about the post- Newtown stories--a 5 year old arrested for bringing a squirt gun to school, another questioned by police for making a gun motion with his little hand. I'm for disciplining unruly kids but what message are we really sending them if we wildly overreact to what children naturally do--imagine.
