Al Sharpton has announced his plans to move to Chicago in an attempt to stop the horrific gun violence that has consumed the city’s urban setting. However, given Sharpton’s track record of turning every situation into a full-blown crisis - the Zimmerman trial comes to mind - his mere presence may not sit well with most Chicago dwellers and it could even exacerbate the situation... Fortunately, recent findings suggest that there’s a medicine to combat gun violence that’s easier to swallow… namely, a strategy of fighting fire with fire—or, to be more precise, using guns to combat gun violence. This strategy has already proven extraordinarily successful in Virginia, and it follows John Lott”s argument in his book More Guns, Less Crime. In the book, Lott argues that jurisdictions that encourage legal gun ownership tend to keep crime lower and more citizens safer than do jurisdictions with stricter gun control laws. Don’t believe me?
