Over-reaching in the aftermath of a political win is nothing new. Both parties are guilty of it. But the Democrats are in a class of their own in misreading Americans' priorities during a rough economy. Heady from Obama's reelection victory, Democrats and liberal activists feel like they have the wind at their backs--and they are going for the max on all policy fronts. So not only are the still unpopular Obamacare rules, regs and taxes kicking in, Dems now want to expand the pool of coverage to illegal immigrants. (Read: future Democrat voters)
Expect to see more the media spit out more of what we jokingly refer to as "immigration sob stories
." The class valedictorian/"undocumented immigrant" threatened with deportation because of a little drug charge...the sweet housekeeper from Honduras who needs heart surgery... Despite our massive spending and debt problems, Dems think we should expand government, which they in turn hope will guarantee more wins at the ballot box. (i.e., people love free stuff.)
Just because voters weren't wild about Romney doesn't mean they want to see every liberal fantasy play out in policy form. Remember, the GOP came roaring back in 2010 in large part because of the earlier Obama over-reaches in health care "reform" and stimulus spending. The same could very well happen in 2014.
