Gun control we like: Tenn. House passes guns-in-trunks

The Tennessee House of Representatives approved a bill Thursday morning, on a 72-22 vote, to let handgun carry permit holders carry their weapons in their cars anywhere they go.

The House joined the Senate in passing guns-in-trunks legislation. The bill now heads to Gov. Bill Haslam, likely putting an end to a long-running debate that had divided Republicans along business and gun rights lines.

House Bill 118 lets the nearly 400,000 Tennesseans with handgun permits, plus those with permits from many other states, carry their guns in their vehicles at all times — even in workplace parking lots. The bill also includes a provision meant to keep businesses from being sued in the event of a workplace shooting or if the weapon is stolen.
