Running through chaos--does that sound fun? Staten Island is where the New York Marathon starts. I ran this marathon--an amazing experience!--and it takes thousands of security personal to oversee the multi-hour event. Yet how to justify this allocation of personnel when thousands in Staten Island and Manhattan still have no power. They need more help. Rescue crews were still finding bodies in Staten Island when this decision to continue with the marathon was made
. We need more disaster-relief folks and supplies running toward the areas suffering the most, not police and emergency crews occupied by marathoners. We have a more important race in the Northeast--a race to help the victims of Sandy.
