So now we can’t even sing one of our nation’s most treasured patriotic songs “America the Beautiful” in English? Coca-Cola may think it is doing itself a global favor by doing the multi-lingual push
in their Super Bowl commercial, but given the reaction they may think twice next time. First, let me be clear that celebrate multilingual families—good for them. Laura herself speaks Russian and Spanish. But the 60-second commercial bugged so many people because there is a growing sense in our country that the system is rigged against the working people who play by the rules. Illegal immigrants clamor for special status as our middle class sees opportunities dry up. Callers have complained that some businesses in Texas won’t hire you if you don’t speak Spanish. This is America and when you live here, work here, go to school here, don’t expect or demand that the rest of the country speak your language. That’s "the real thing”!
